Assessment & treatment options

  • Sleep history and partner report. Detailed assessment of snoring, breathing pauses, sleep quality and daytime symptoms.
  • Upper airway examination. Evaluation of the nose, throat, tonsils, soft palate and tongue base; endoscopy may be advised when needed.
  • Sleep study referral. Home or lab-based sleep study may be advised to confirm severity and guide treatment.
  • CPAP guidance. Support for patients advised CPAP therapy, including counselling and referral where required.
  • Oral appliance referral. Selected patients may benefit from dental sleep appliances when appropriate.
  • Surgical treatment. Procedures may be considered when anatomy contributes to obstruction and conservative treatment is not enough.
